Expanding Workforce Housing
Current homebuilding is not enough to address our current needs and to prepare for Micron-related growth. I have supported the Legislature's bipartisan efforts to develop better housing solutions for working families, and I am pushing for policies that will incentivize townhouses and starter homes. Because of my time in Village government, I also understand the importance of working with municipalities so that they can expand housing in a way that works for their own communities.

Protecting our Environment

From our lakes to our green spaces, the natural beauty of Onondaga County is one of our most important assets. As Chair of the Environmental Protection Committee, I have worked with local organizations to protect and preserve our water sources. When problems have occurred, like the water main break in the Eastern suburbs or the discovery of additional mercury at Onondaga Lake, I have held public discussions with the people in charge of cleanup. I regularly meet with the agencies that will oversee our upcoming Micron-related growth to ensure that this growth does not overtax our resources.

Livability and Affordability
Central New York has long been known for its affordability and high quality of life. But that's changing. Homeownership is out of reach for too many, everyday costs are rising and wages aren't keeping up. Meanwhile, support programs for working families are being cut back. You deserve a county government that puts your everyday needs first. I will champion policies that improve quality of life for working families, like reliable transit, enhanced parks, expanded outreach to veterans and better health services.

End the Aquarium Waste
When the County received millions of dollars in federal stimulus funds, it had a choice: invest in workforce housing, cut taxes for working and middle-class homeowners, or improve our infrastructure. Instead, the County Executive built an aquarium - a $100 million monument to his own ego at your expense. Choosing fish over people is a moral failure. You deserve an independent voice who will stand up against this kind of waste. I will fight to stop any further waste of taxpayer money on this project, and to redirect funds where they belong: back into our communities.
