My Record
Workforce Housing
I have supported and participated in the Legislature's bipartisan effort to develop housing solutions for Onondaga County. Our current pace of building is not enough. The Legislature has hosted several sessions with municipal leaders and citizens to discuss housing and develop solutions that can work for our local communities. My experience in local government and in planning has been helpful during these discussions, and I look forward to more progress toward incentivizing the townhouses and starter homes we need.
Transparency and Accountability
When it became clear that donations to the unpopular and wasteful aquarium were not being reported in a transparent or timely way, I supported legislation that requires the Friends of the Aquarium to provide more detailed reporting on donors. I also supported legislation requiring businesses to tell you if they are gathering your biometric data. You have a right to know who is collecting your biometric data so that you can avoid those businesses.
Protecting Our Waters
Otisco Lake is a critical supplier of water for the County. It also faces environmental challenges and needs people committed to its health. I secured funding for the Otisco Lake Preservation Association to obtain a water monitoring buoy that will collect water quality data. The data will reveal more about the condition of the lake, and therefore what more can be done to protect it. Critically, the data can then be used to qualify for more grants and programs aimed at lake protection.
Good Governance Laws
I have supported the Good Governance package of laws. These include: (1) term limits for County Executive of three, four-year terms; (2) fairly drawn legislative district maps and an end to partisan gerrymandering; and (3) vacancy reform so that the County Executive cannot appoint people to the legislative body that is supposed to be a check and balance on the executive.
The County Executive vetoed term limits and opposed vacancy reform, and Republicans demanded that the fair maps law be reworked. With your vote, I can keep fighting for these commonsense good governance policies.
